Tsunami Hazard Code Changes and Public Hearing

Tsunami street marker installation

A major portion of the city's tsunami hazard efforts is approaching completion. On October 9th, the Florence Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to determine whether to recommend changes to Florence City Code. Those changes would be finalized by the City Council at a later hearing. As part of the broader city project to increase community resilience to tsunami-related risks, the proposed code changes would apply a Tsunami Hazard Overlay. Affected properties have been identified using cutting-edge modeling that gives us insight into what would happen in the event of a tsunami. Many Florence residents have received a mailer indicating that their property would be affected by the new codes.

For more information, visit our web page for the hearing. At the bottom of the page, you'll find the proposed code changes themselves and the maps used to identify affected areas.
