Reserve Police Officer Program

The Florence Police Department’s Reserve Police Officers are sworn police officers who volunteer their time to help protect our community. Generally they assist certified police officers in the performance of their duties by riding with them in mark patrol units. They can assist other officers to answer emergency calls for service, to render aid, to make arrests, to write traffic citations, testify in court, and assist in the operations of the jail. These reserve police officers have the same authority of a regular certified police officer while on duty only.

Reserve officers must have completed a Law Enforcement Reserve Academy or equivalent training academy to be sworn in as a reserve police officer. These same officers attend the same in service training as the certified police officers do and must perform 16 hours of volunteer service each month to remain a reserve police officer with the Florence Police Department. Additionally the Florence Police Department holds all reserve police officers to the same standard of conduct as a certified police officer.

These officers are well respected and an integral component of the department assisting in our meeting our mission requirements. This program is an extremely valuable opportunity for men and women in the community to receive training and experience that would benefit them should they decide to pursue a full time career in law enforcement.
