Informational Release Regarding Vegetation Clearance

With spring in full swing the City of Florence wants to insure local area business owners, property owners and residents are aware of the requirements to keep vegetation from causing visibility and passage problems in the right of way, including streets and sidewalks.

Under Florence City Code, vegetation is required to be maintained to not obstruct clear vision at street and driveway intersections. The defined “Clear Vision Area” can be described as a triangle extending inward 20’ on each street from where both curb lines would come to a point if the curb was not rounded.

In addition to visibility concerns, vegetation is often observed growing out onto or over the sidewalks and streets, sometimes to the extent where it limits free passage of vehicles and or pedestrians. City Code also requires that vegetation is not to hang over a sidewalk at a height of any less than 8’, and a street at a height of any less than 13’4”.

The City asks that all residents, property owners, business owners take the time to inspect their property for either of these problems and abate them for all of our safety. As a reminder the City provides low cost Yard Debris Disposal days, held at the 27th St. entrance to the airport on the 3rd Saturday of each month through November, except for holidays. Please see the City’s website at www.ci.florence.or.us for the listing of dates. Should anyone have any questions, they should be directed to the Code Enforcement Officer at (541) 997-3515.
