Active Threat Training

Active Threat Training

An active threat is a situation that no one wants to imagine, but these trainings are about making sure Florence Police officers learn how to respond and quickly locate and eliminate any threat, secure a scene and to assist any victims. This type of on-going training for our officers is important and reinforces our procedures and objectives. Recently, the Florence Police have held similar trainings at the High School, Middle School, and Elementary School and will periodically have these trainings at all Siuslaw schools and other locations in the City.

The Florence Police Department regularly conducts active threat training at the Siuslaw schools in cooperation with the Siuslaw School District. It is important for officers to familiarize themselves with each buildings design, go through new additions as classrooms are being added and for new officers to see how each building is laid out.

As these trainings are scheduled, we will post it to the City website and City Facebook page.  There will be Police signs, reader boards and police tape at the involved school(s) indicating that a training is taking place. Due to the nature of this type of training we know that some of the activity you may see could be upsetting, so we want our community members to be aware.
