Call Before You Dig

City of Florence Oregon Official Website

In Oregon, State Law requires that you call before you dig, no matter the size of your planned dig—from a large scale excavation to digging in your own yard.

The One-Call Locator Service was established to prevent damage to underground infrastructure and keep you safe from harm.

When you call the service, they will send the information they receive from you about your worksite to all of the underground facility owners in your area.  The City of Florence Public Works Department will be notified if your worksite is inside the city limits.

While some facility owners will locate underground utilities to your home (for example, power will locate to the electrical meter at/on the home), it is important for you to know that the City will only locate services within our right-of-way and/or easements.  We cannot locate private sewer and water lines.  The City’s responsibility for water services end at the water meter location and at the property line for sewer services.

If you are concerned that your excavation project will impact the water line that is between the meter box and your home and sewer service that is on your private property, One Call can refer you to a locator service in your area that can mark your privately owned lines.

The Utility Notification Center in Oregon (OUNC) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-332-2344 (or 811).  Please allow 2-5 days (not counting weekends or holidays) from the time you call to having the underground lines marked.

Remember, EVERY digging job requires a call—even small projects like planting trees and shrubs, or installing a fence or a deck.
