Budget Report to Citizens Award
This Budget Report to Citizens, is intended to demonstrate how City services enhance Citizen awareness of the City's finances. At the League of Oregon Cities (LOC) 88th Annual Conference held the last weekend of September 2013, the City of Florence was awarded the 2013 Helen and Alan Berg Good Governance Award for the Budget Report to Citizens.
More about the project:
Building on a goal of improving citizen awareness and involvement, the city council began preparing an annual budget report to the community. The purpose of the report was to provide citizens with an easy-to-understand guide on city finances and how resources are used in the community. The report includes a message from the city manager, information regarding property taxes, a focus on sources and uses of city funds, a financial summary of significant programs, and a look at capital projects and utility fee rates for the upcoming year. Originally intended to be distributed through utility bills, the reports were ultimately delivered to every
household within city limits. The city has received positive feedback from its citizenry. The judges were impressed with not only the transparency shown in the document, but how well the publication was laid out with the use of simple, easy-to-understand charts.
Detailed financial reports, required audited financial statements and budget documents can be found on the City of Florence Finance Department website at http://www.ci.florence.or.us/finance. Copies of the Budget Report to Citizens were mailed to Florence residents in June 2013. If you did not receive one for some reason, paper copies are available at City Hall.
