GIS Technician

(Public Works Department)

$20.07-27.73/hr. DOQ.

The City of Florence is accepting applications for a GIS Technician to join our Public Works Department! This position is a regular, full-time (Monday - Friday; 40 hours), non-exempt position. This position is not represented by a union or association.

What role does this position serve in the City?

The GIS Technician provides internal and external support to the City by taking responsibility for:

  • all GIS related data production and maintenance;
  • all GIS related software use and support;
  • providing excellent internal and external customer service and support as related to the City’s GIS data;
  • performing accurate and detailed record keeping of the City’s GIS data; and
  • performing other general support to Public Works and the City in general.

What qualifications are we looking for?

The City is looking for someone with the following education and/or experience:

  • a degree or certification in GIS and one year of applicable experience and training in a full range GIS applications; or
  • one year of professional work experience and training in GIS; or
  • a demonstrable combination of education and past experience allow us to see that you’d be successful in this position.

Additionally, the City is seeking someone with the special qualification of having experience or specialized training in the ArcGIS software suite.

We’d also prefer a candidate with knowledge or experience working with municipal infrastructures or experience with AutoCad.

What type of candidate would be a great fit?

Beyond the above qualifications, we’d like someone that:

  • takes direction well;
  • is collaborative and willing to work cooperatively with staff and the public;
  • is detail oriented and analytical in nature;
  • can understand the “lingo” of the field and translate it for those of us that don’t;
  • can produce accurate and professional work product in a timely manner;
  • is generally positive; and
  • is willing to build upon what our previous staff has already started.
