Siuslaw Estuary Partnership Open House

Siuslaw Estuary Partnership

The Siuslaw Estuary Partnership is holding an Open House on Monday, April 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Florence Events Center.  The Siuslaw Estuary Partnership is a collaborative effort by the City of Florence and its federal, state, and local partners to protect and improve water quality and fish and wildlife habitat in the lower Siuslaw River Watershed. This three-year project is funded by project partners and the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The Open House is the public’s first chance to comment on draft Comprehensive Plan Policies and Code for protecting the North Florence Sole Source Dunal Aquifer, wetlands, and riparian areas.  Drop in at specified times for pre-scheduled presentations on the following topics:

5:15  Aquifer Protection Plan
5:35  Water Monitoring Program
5:55  Wetlands and Riparian Areas
6:10  Siuslaw Estuary Trail
6:25  Key Estuary Wetlands

Join us on April 30th to learn about the aquifer, potential sources of contamination, and proposed strategies for long term protection of the resource.  Learn about wetlands and riparian areas, why they are important, and proposals to protect them.  You can also help shape a Vision for the Siuslaw Estuary Trail and hear a presentation on projects to protect and restore tidal wetlands.
