The City of Florence provides the water, sewer, stormwater and street services for all citizens within the city limits. See the supporting documents section below for answers to FAQ's and to download commonly used forms.
Starting Water Service
If you are new to the area, or have just recently moved into a new house, you will need to have water service started in your name. Jordan Walker is our Utility Clerk, but anyone in the Finance Department would be more than happy to answer your questions or concerns. You'll need to complete the following steps:
* Fill out a Utility Service Application Form that can either be downloaded & printed, or found at the Finance Department of City Hall.
* Pay a $10.00 processing fee.
Discontinuing Water Service
In order to discontinue your existing water service, we must have a signed Discontinue Service Request Form for our files in order to process the request. You can either download and print the form, or find one at the Finance Department of City Hall. There is no charge to discontinue water service.
You have two options with your service when you take an extended vacation. (over a month)
* You can leave your water/sewer service as is or
* You can have your water service discontinued during the time you are away. You will need to complete a Vacation Status Request Form (which will stop the water/sewer portion of the bill but the stormwater and well rehabilitation fees will still be billed) showing the date you want your service stopped. At the time of the Vacation Status request, you will also need to complete a Water/Sewer Application (page two of the Vacation Status Request Form) in order to have your service started when you return. Then, you will only need to give us a call a couple of days ahead of time with the date that you will be back at your service address (home) and we will make sure that your water/sewer service is back on and ready for you. There is a $10.00 processing fee to restart your water service and it will be added to your next month’s bill.
Billing and Rates
We bill on a monthly basis on the first of every month for services provided the previous month. Bills are always due on the 15th of each month. Please see the Rate Schedule for rates, including the base fees.
A portion of your bill is based on usage. (Residential = water, Commercial = water & sewer) A drippy faucet or running toilet can run your bill up surprisingly high, as can excess watering during the summer months. If you note an increase in your bill and there has been no leaks or excess usage, there is a possibility that you may have a leak in the lines. Please contact us and we will send someone out, at no charge, to assess the situation and notify you if any repairs need to be made. Please see the City Code for details.
