Florence Forest Service Office to Reduce Hours

The Forest Service office located in Florence will be reducing its hours of operation beginning January 30. The office will be open to the public 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, closed Saturday through Tuesday. Recreation passes, maps, visitor information and special forest product permits, including firewood, will be available at the Florence office during its business hours

“It is difficult for us to maintain front desk operations at three district office locations –Waldport, Florence and Reedsport – especially in light of recent retirements and a need to reduce costs,” said Pam Gardner, Central Coast Ranger District and Oregon Dunes NRA District Ranger.

The Oregon Dunes Visitor Center, located in Reedsport, will begin offering special forest product permits starting January 31, Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“In the past, the Oregon Dunes Visitor Center has only sold recreation items like passes, books, maps and souvenirs,” notes Gardner. “In an effort to meet our customers’ needs concerning the reduction of hours in Florence, we plan to also sell special forest products in Reedsport.”
